Baylor Departments Donate PPE
Since the beginning of the pandemic, essential workers have worked to combat many unknowns. Nurses, doctors, firefighters, police, and many others have continually provided medical care and emergency services that directly increased their risk of contracting COVID-19, in part due to global shortages of personal protective equipment.
After news broke that classes would shift online for the remainder of the semester, Baylor University and the Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing donated critical medical PPE to Baylor Scott & White Health and the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. The donation included over 2,000 face masks, 9,000 gloves, 200 isolation gowns and 24 cans of hand sanitizer foam.
In Waco, Dennis Nolan, the Director for Environmental Health and Safety at Baylor partnered with Elizabeth Thomas, the Emergency Management Coordinator for Waco/McLennan County to bring PPE donations to local hospitals, while the Baylor Libraries harnessed 3D printing technology to create tension relief bands to aid those wearing masks daily.
To date, Baylor has donated 563 boxes of gloves, 279 gowns, 241 pairs of glasses, 150 pairs of shoe covers, and over 550 3D-printed surgical tension relief bands.
