Behind the Art: Cultural Arts of Waco & Lula Jane's
Weekly, we are taking you behind the art – meet the businesses and artists who played an integral role in our 2020 “Art of Homecoming” activation. This week, we are featuring Cultural Arts of Waco and Lula Jane’s!
Headquartered on Elm Avenue, Cultural Arts of Waco believes in supporting the arts and arts education year round in all sections of Waco, as well as advocating for art in public spaces that all may enjoy. Throughout the year, Cultural Arts of Waco offers a full schedule of programming, from festivals and artistic endeavors with community partners, and we are thrilled to have partnered together for the Homecoming 2020 mural project. Cultural Arts of Waco, located at 814 Elm Avenue, hosted artist Cory Lind. Cory Lind, known for his hyper-realistic portraits and landscapes, created a mural depicting famed Wacoan Jules Bledsoe, African American musician and performer. In shades of green and gold, this portrait is accompanied by one of Bledsoe’s most inspirational quotes.
Just up the road, local favorite Lula Jane’s hosted a tribute to Baylor’s very first homecoming game vs. TCU by artist Paige Partlow. Partlow is a native Wacoan who teaches art at Castleman Creek Elementary in Hewitt. The next time you are in East Waco or the downtown area, be sure to visit Lula Jane’s, located art 401 Elm Avenue, for a pastry or the lunch special! Lula Jane’s is committed to providing excellent food and baked goods in an environment that nurtures a community spirit. This award winning restaurant believes in paying it forward with all profits going to feed the hungry in East Waco.
