Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the City of Waco
Baylor University is thrilled to invite the community to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Formally recognized as the period between September 15 to October 15, this month honors the contributions and cultures of Hispanic and Latino Americans.
Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua all declared their independence from Spain on September 15, 1821. The nations Mexico, Chile and Belize celebrate their independence days on September 16, September 18, and September 21, respectively. In 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first Hispanic Heritage Week presidential proclamation during the peak of the civil rights movement. President George H.W. Bush became the first president to expand this week to a full month in 1989, dedicating this time to celebrating how the Latinx and Hispanic communities have enriched the U. S.
Join the festivities as the City of Waco highlights the group’s heritage throughout this month.
