City of Waco Receives Music Friendly Certification
City Growth Solid Gold Neighbor
Known as a top tourist destination within the state of Texas, whatever you are looking for, you can find it in Waco. Whether you are a local or are just visiting, shopping, dining and entertainment options abound to suit any taste. The variety of options is no accident – over years, individuals, nonprofits, and the city itself have explored avenues to cultivate our city, pouring efforts into supporting all who call Waco home.In July of this year, Waco received Texas’s Music Friendly Designation, the latest in those efforts. According to the Texas Music Office website, participation in the “Music Friendly” program provides Texas communities with a network for fostering music industry development, and sends a clear message to industry professionals that certified communities are serious about attracting and developing music industry growth. Waco received the 12th designation in the state, joining ranks with Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Denton, Lindale, Stephenville, Conroe, San Angelo, Nacogdoches, Abilene, McKinney, Waxahachie, Waco, Alpine, and Bastrop.
This designation has been on Waco’s radar since 2019, when the Texas Music Office hosted a workshop and local showcase, sponsored by the Waco Convention Center and Visitor’s Bureau, Keep Waco Loud, Music Association of Central Texas, KXXV- TV and Creative Waco.
Now, with the designation in place and amidst the global pandemic, local stakeholders are bringing the best of Waco’s music and venues to the public through a new TV show set to air on KXXV. Weekly, starting October 4th, Texas Music Café: Destination: Waco will highlight performances past and showcase new artists from a variety of genres at venues across town.
