Communicating as One Community
By Jeremy Vickers, Associate Vice President, External Affairs
Effective leaders possess many qualities, some of which include vision, empowerment, and empathy. When a pandemic hit our community last spring, community leaders rose to the occasion to leverage a skill of leadership: communication. The City of Waco, under the leadership of former mayor Kyle Deaver, created a series of task forces to address important, pandemic related issues in the Waco community including the City of Waco Strategic Communications Workgroup spearheaded by Councilman Hector Sabido (District 1) and Natalie Kelinske with the Waco Foundation. In the weeks and months that passed, as the pandemic swelled and misinformation thrived, this working group, comprised of community leaders, rallied each week to create, organize, and disseminate consistent digital communications that ensure the highest quality of information was conveyed to the citizens of Waco. Over time, that role expanded into radio spots, Facebook ads, virtual town halls, and ensuring that every aspect of communication was accomplish in both English and Spanish.
Over the course of the subsequent months, the newsletter has blossomed into a highly valued and utilized tool for organizations and citizens alike to maintain awareness, best practices, and accuracy of news on the COVID-19 front. It is the aim of the workgroup to ensure that all citizens have access to this resource. To sign up and receive this important newsletter visit: http://eepurl.com/gY8lmL.
Therefore, it is with great pleasure we highlight this ongoing effort as a Solid Gold Neighbor by creating a healthy, safe, and open conversation at the sacrifice of personal and professional time from our leaders in the City of Waco through the Strategic Communications Workgroup.
