Cultural Wealth Wednesday: Lauren Vo
Baylor is home to thousands of bright minds working diligently to learn the necessary skills to build a better world. Included in those leaders of both today and tomorrow is Lauren Vo.
Lauren, a Senior Political Science major, represents the best of Baylor and the potential its students have to make a positive impact while in Waco. As the President of Baylor’s Coalition of Asian Students, Lauren is tasked with representing this thriving student population, ensuring they receive the fullness of the Baylor Experience. In asking Lauren her “why” for taking on this leadership role, she shared the following. “As an Asian American student, there are things in my Baylor experience that should not be considered normal. There’s so much I love about Baylor, and because I love it, I’m constantly seeking to make it better for the students who will come after me.”
Lauren thanks Baylor’s Department of Multicultural Affairs for cultivating a desire to serve others in her current capacity. Through the mentorship of Departmental staff Jeronda Robinson, Sharyl Loeung, Geoffrey Griggs, and their Director Pearlie Beverly, she is continuously encouraged to be fearless in demanding progress for our multicultural communities. She is extremely grateful for Baylor, and it’s administration, faculty, and staff members who intentionally build real relationships without typical barriers of rank.
Lauren’s favorite memories of Baylor are attending the events hosted by our vibrant Asian American, Latinx, and Black students, such as Battle on the Burning Sands and Autumn Moon. Her favorite thing about Waco are its many great hidden gems, from Rufi’s Cocina to Taqueria Santa Fe to Cajun Craft—all must tries and reasons why she would rank Waco above any other city!
“I continue to invest my time in bettering Baylor because I want future students to understand that there’s a brilliant community of multicultural organizations that are present and contribute to bettering the Baylor and Waco community.”
We are thankful for your investment in others Lauren, and am honored to highlight you as a Solid Gold Neighbor for your contributions to advancing Cultural Wealth on our campus and in the community!
