Cultural Wealth Wednesday: Wings of Waco
Located at the intersection of Franklin Drive and 8th Street in downtown Waco, Union Hall is home to various restaurants capable of satisfying the hunger of all who visit. Included in the mix of flavors to enjoy is Wings of Waco. Serving good wings and great hospitality, Wings of Waco is the brainchild of Chef Kemar Ballentine-Harris. With a mission to become the premier spot for wings in the city, Wings of Waco offers a selection of a dozen delicious flavors to coat your wings in.
Chef Harris believes the impact of Wings of Waco reaches far beyond the ability to serve good food, seeing the restaurant as a space to build unity and family by becoming a staple fixture in the downtown market. Additionally, through his involvement in area chambers of commerce, he can network with other business owners and serve as a mentor and friend to those looking to go into entrepreneurship.
Before moving to Waco, Chef Harris served in the Army as a food service specialist followed by time spent creating deliciousness with the Princess Cruise Lines, Ritz Carlton Hotels, and a traveling chef for the State of Alabama. He first moved to Texas to work for the University of Texas at Austin, eventually being promoted to the number two chef for the campus. Now that he is in Baylor country, Chef Harris has grown to love the area’s diversity, unity, and support that Wacoans give to each other daily. This level of support is evident as Harris shared his favorite memory while in business, where he has been able to persevere through COVID-19 and stay open, going from 2-3 orders a day to posting higher sales than ever before -- a testament to Waco’s appreciation for the quality of their food and service.
Thank you for being our Wing Man Chef Harris! We are honored to have you in Waco and to highlight you as a Solid Gold Neighbor.
