Honoring Heroes, One Meal at a Time
WacoDelivers: City Growth Solid Gold Neighbor
Jeremy Vickers, Associate Vice President, External Affairs
Hero is a word we use, perhaps, too haphazardly at times. While it is special to recognize someone that makes an impact in our lives or the lives of others, a hero is someone that goes above and beyond. A hero is selfless; someone who risks their comfort, health, and safety for another. Often, a hero does this without formal recognition or reward. I say this to take a moment and recognize heroes in our community, our healthcare workers. During this time, many of our business and education sectors have had to take a slight pause or shift gears to a virtual environment all the while healthcare workers are on the front lines doing extra shifts, staying away from family, and getting sick themselves all for the sake of us and our health.
Recognizing heroes is difficult, but today we want to tell the story of a group whose purpose is to empower us to honor our heroes. WacoDelivers.com was created as a response to a gap. A group of local entrepreneurs (Blake Batson and Kyle Citrano) wanted to create an opportunity to ensure small businesses, particularly restaurants, could continue to operate while at the same enable community members to purchase food and treats for healthcare workers. This website is simple to use and already has more than twenty restaurants ready to prepare a meal or more at your request.
The process is simple. First, consider who you would like to send food too! We recommend one of many healthcare or public safety organizations such as Ascension Providence, Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest, Family Health Center, and City of Waco Police, Fire, or Emergency Operations Center, to name a few. Second, visit www.WacoDelivers.com to review a list of participating restaurants. Third, contact the restaurant directly to plan a meal, delivery date, and time as well as letting them know you are doing this as a part of WacoDelivers.com ($25 minimum order). Finally, we recommend letting the delivery location know of your intent so they can expect the delivery and plan accordingly. It’s as easy as that!
This is your opportunity, Baylor and Waco communities, to serve in yet another creative way! While we will get through this and we will thrive once again, today must serve and honor. Today, we stand United for Waco and United for Health Workers!
