Keeping Waco Safe, One Wall at a Time!
by Jeremy Vickers, Associate Vice President of External Affairs
The mood of city, some say, is displayed through its artists. If that’s true, then Waco remains a ‘city with a soul’ as a #wacosafe chalk art mural campaign kicks in full gear this summer. When Creative Waco Executive Director Fiona Bond talks about these murals, her face lights up and her passion for art, collaboration, and community shine!
The City of Waco, through its strategic communications workgroup led by Councilman Hector Sabido and Waco Foundation’s Natalie Kelinske, have partnered with Creative Waco and a dozen area businesses to place artists and their creative chalk art murals across our city. With locations ranging from Pinewood to Common Grounds, our town will come alive with an important message during these times: keep Waco safe, wear a face covering!
As a partner in this project, Baylor University is proud to see the quality and diversity of artists, locations, and murals that will represent our community. As we prepare to bring our family back to campus, we also know and understand the impact this may have on our community. We believe that we are citizens of this community, our students, faculty, and staff love Waco and call it home whether for a few years or a lifetime. We want to keep Baylor and Waco safe!
