Solid Gold Neighbor: Education
by Holly Burchett, Director, Community Relations
At Baylor, our primary role is to educate and equip minds to provide bright opportunity and advancement in an ever-changing world. In the same light, it is an honor to support our local school districts and education focused non-profits because they are impacting one of the most valuable assets our city has: its future leaders, workforce and community members.
As a speech-language pathologist, I understand the importance of meeting development milestones, the acquisition of language and achieving an advanced level of literacy. When support is provided through home visiting programs, Early Childhood Intervention (ECI), quality childcare and preschool programming, and our local Independent School Districts, the children in our community are set up for a lifetime of potential success.
Through the office of External Affairs at Baylor, we strive to be a strong neighbor that identifies resources to assist these local education agencies with support in a variety of ways. We understand the value of hosting a local student of any age on our campus to improve the pathway to have access to higher education. We enjoy lining up experts in child and family studies, education and social work to provide and share quality professional development with our local educators. In addition, with knowledge of how literacy can change a child’s pathway, we feel compelled to provide resources that create healthy competition around the love and enjoyment of books.
When you encourage a student and provide resources and support to a local teacher, we believe that we join in the symphony that strengthens Waco one child at a time.
