The Waco-McLennan County Libraries
For years, the Waco-McLennan County Libraries have served the community with four branches throughout the greater Waco area. The libraries strive to be a vital organization that is an integral and valued part of the community of McLennan County.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the libraries offered more than just books – the libraries functioned as a space for hands-on activities, offering literacy programs for children, youth and adults, along with free wi-fi and access to audio and e-books through a free mobile application (and so much more!).
During the pandemic, these services have grown and expanded to meet the needs of community members where they are, launching curbside services, virtual programming, and take-home discovery boxes to encourage continued learning outside of library walls.
Throughout the past year, the libraries have leveraged social media, including Facebook and Youtube to create awareness around programs and offer video programming. On Youtube, explore space, learn scouting skills, hear book reviews, and learn to make crafts and snacks with guidance from library staff.
In addition to virtual content, books and discovery boxes are available for checkout either in person or via curbside pickup. Each discovery box contains books, DVDs, and informational print outs focusing on a theme. Boxes are swapped regularly so check back often!
As we weather the pandemic together, the libraries continue to serve as a hub for learning and resources. Visit a branch near you for a library card, and gain access to all of their offerings.
