Celebrating our Solid Gold Neighbors, Alpha Lambda Delta

October 4, 2022

Baylor University’s mission is to educate men and women for worldwide leadership and service by integrating academic excellence and Christian commitment within a caring community, and Alpha Lambda Delta, a student group on campus, is doing just that.

Baylor’s chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta was founded in 1958 and currently holds claim to the title of largest honors society in the nation for two years running. Dedicated to values of leadership and scholarship, ALD is an honors society for students who have received a 3.5 GPA or higher during their first year of higher education. This is not a small feat! They induct over 1,000 members every semester, almost one quarter of freshman students. Every semester, Baylor ALD organizes and hosts multiple academic, service and social events for members, providing opportunities for students to network with other students while developing leadership skills, alongside educational opportunities outside of the classroom.

Monthly, you will find ALD members giving back through service, through everything from car washes to profit shares—even pumpkin carving! Each of these opportunities raises funds for nonprofit organizations, in addition to a dedicated portion of ALD dues that directly contribute to fundraising efforts. Beyond fundraising, ALD organizes volunteer opportunities for students with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Waco Humane Society.

Last spring, Alpha Lambda Delta honor society raised over $18,000 for 16 different nonprofit organizations with both global and local impact. ALD past-president Shannon Sepanski and former advisor, Deborah Manzanares, both wanted to focus on issues that affected Wacoans, putting efforts towards supporting Mission Waco, Waco Humane Society, Waco Family Abuse Center, and so many more. Deborah Manzanares was also recognized as the 2022 Alpha Lambda Delta Advisor of the Year. After reactivating the Baylor chapter of ALD, she remained their sole supervisor until last year.

We are proud to celebrate Alpha Lambda Delta as one of our Solid Gold Neighbors – keep up the great work!
