Dr. Adia Gooden
Adia Gooden, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist; she received her BA in Psychology from Stanford University and her PhD in Clinical Community Psychology from DePaul University. Dr. Adia served as a Staff Psychologist and the Coordinator for Multicultural Outreach and Support for the Student Counseling Service at The University of Chicago and the Director of the Clinic and Community Programs at The Family Institute at Northwestern before starting her own business.
Dr. Adia is a sought-after, dynamic speaker who gives talks and workshops on unconditional self-worth, imposter syndrome, and Black women’s mental health. Dr. Adia co-authored the book Promoting Black Women’s Mental Health, published by Cambridge University Press. Dr. Adia gave a TEDx talk called “Cultivating Unconditional Self-Worth,” which has over 1 million views. Dr. Adia hosts the Unconditionally Worthy podcast and coaches high achieving professional women to embrace their unconditional self-worth.

Drawing on her experience as a licensed clinical psychologist and 7 years working in college counseling Dr. Adia will share her wisdom and insights on how faculty, staff, and community partners can support students in believing they are worthy and foster their mental wellness. Dr. Adia will highlight challenges students experience that detract from their mental health and feelings of worthiness. Dr. Adia will share a practical framework to help attendees integrate compassion into the campus culture to support student mental wellness and self-worth.

Many high achieving students feel that they are unworthy or only conditionally worthy. This can show up as imposter syndrome, struggles with burnout, and procrastination. In this talk Dr. Adia will share her story of struggling with and eventually overcoming low self-worth to inspire students on their own journeys to believing they are unconditionally worthy. Dr. Adia will answer questions, share strategies, and engage in live conversation following the 15–20-minute talk.
